TL;DR
- Save these numbers in your phone before you arrive — not in your notes app, but as actual contacts.
- Bali Tourist Police: 0361-224 111 (English-speaking, dedicated tourist assistance)
- Indonesian Police Emergency: 110
- Ambulance: 118 (response time variable — private hospital direct is often faster)
- BIMC Hospital Kuta: +62 361 761 263 (24-hour, English-speaking, tourist-experienced)
- Your embassy's emergency line should be your third call in any serious incident, after safety and medical attention.

Most trips to Bali end without needing any of these numbers. But most is not all, and the 60 seconds it takes to save these contacts before you land is one of the highest-value things you can do in your pre-trip preparation. When something goes wrong in a foreign country — whether it's a road accident, a robbery, a serious illness, or an arrest — having the right number immediately accessible is the difference between managing a situation and panicking through it.
This page is designed to be saved, bookmarked, or screenshots taken on your phone before departure. It is not a general interest article — it is a functional reference document.
How to Use This Guide
The most important thing you can do with this information is save it before you need it. Practical suggestions:
- Add the tourist police, nearest hospital, and your embassy's emergency line as phone contacts under "Bali Emergency - Police", "Bali Emergency - Hospital", "Bali Emergency - Embassy".
- Screenshot the hospital and police section and save it to your phone's photo album where it's accessible offline.
- Share the embassy contact with a family member or friend at home, so they know who to call if they lose contact with you.
- If you have travel insurance, save your insurer's 24-hour emergency assistance number in the same contact list — it should be on your insurance document or card.

After-Hours Consular Emergency Lines
For serious emergencies occurring outside business hours, these are the numbers to call. Most countries' embassies in Jakarta also have an after-hours duty officer accessible through the main switchboard — stay on the line through the automated menu until you reach a human.
What embassies can help with in an emergency:
- Replacing a lost or stolen passport
- Arrest or detention — notifying your embassy of an arrest is a legal right under the Vienna Convention
- Serious medical emergency — coordinating with family and possibly facilitating evacuation assistance
- Death abroad — supporting repatriation of remains
- Connecting you with local legal representation
What embassies cannot do: pay your medical bills, pay bail or fines, or intervene in Indonesian legal proceedings on your behalf (beyond observer status). See our guide on what happens if you are arrested in Bali for the full picture.

What to Do in Common Emergency Scenarios
If you are robbed or experience theft
- Get to a safe location.
- Call Bali Tourist Police: 0361-224 111.
- Go to the nearest police station to file a formal report — required for insurance claims.
- Contact your bank to cancel cards.
- If your passport was stolen, contact your embassy immediately.
If you have a serious motorbike accident
- If mobile: call BIMC Kuta directly (+62 361 761 263) rather than waiting for an ambulance.
- If unable to move: call ambulance 118 and tourist police 0361-224 111 simultaneously.
- Call your travel insurance emergency line as soon as you are stable.
- Do not admit liability at the scene.
- Photograph everything once it is safe to do so.
If you are arrested or detained
- Do not resist. Comply calmly with police instructions.
- Ask immediately to contact your embassy — this is your legal right under the Vienna Convention.
- Do not sign anything in Indonesian that you do not understand.
- Contact your embassy's emergency line.
- Read our guide on what happens if you are arrested in Bali for the full process.
If you suspect dengue or serious illness
- Go to BIMC or Siloam — do not self-manage suspected dengue without a blood test to confirm platelet counts.
- Bring your insurance documents and emergency line number.
- Contact your insurer's emergency line to notify them of hospitalization.
Prepared Is Not Paranoid
Carrying these contacts is not an admission that something will go wrong. It is the same logic as carrying a seatbelt — you don't plan to crash, but you are infinitely better off if you do. For broader safety preparation, read our Bali safety guide for 2026 and our travel insurance guide. Have an extraordinary trip.
